Our philosophy

What makes the perfect foodie pub? Delicious food and drink, great ambience, excellent service, and good value are no doubt high on your list. Here at the Chequers Inn, we like to think we tick all these boxes and more.

We want our food to shine. We offer a fine dining menu as well as lighter dishes served in our bar area. Our chefs are passionate about food, and enjoy the creative process that each dish demands. We smoke our own salmon, make our own chutneys, home-cure our own bresaola, and conjure every sumptuous dessert from scratch. Ingredients are locally-sourced wherever possible, and some produce is grown in our kitchen garden.

We've worked closely with our wine suppliers to offer you a selection of our favourite wines. Wines on our list suit every budget and they're sourced from all over the globe, from vineyards in Sussex to France, Italy and the New World.

In the bar, there's a diverse range of local ales. Harvey's Sussex Best is always available, along with a choice of guest ales from featured UK breweries.

Good service, whether at your table or behind the bar, is hugely important to us. Our friendly and knowledgeable staff are always happy to help with any queries you might have.
